Hello, friends! We just had our first flat-lay party!! It was SO much fun that we’re hoping to call these “Quarterly Flat-lay Parties.” We met in the Crow’s Nest at Blackwall Hitch in Alexandria mid-day on Tuesday, January 30th. Their space has lots of room for a group of this size and TONS of natural light as the ceiling above that space is glass. We could not have asked for a better venue and are so thankful the opportunity to use their gorgeous restaurant!
On a side note, this place is a personal favorite of mine. I love their contemporary American cuisine, beverage selection, level of service, and most of all, their layout and location. Blackwall Hitch Alexandria is located right along the Potomac in Old Town. Whether you’re sitting inside or outside, you can enjoy lots of natural light and a view of the water. The nautical vibe is right up my alley, too.
For this event, my idea was to have any creative who wasn’t a photographer design a flat-lay (or two!) that represented their brand and stay at their location to mingle with photographers as they rotated through each station. I really wanted everyone to take away the following: professional images featuring local creatives, everyone’s work to be shared in front of new audiences, and time well spent with friends.
This flat-lay party allowed us to join in the spirit of “community over competition” and enjoy one another’s company doing what we all love best – being creative! Photographers were able to get to know brands better by seeing what others had brought to style. And non-photographer creatives got to learn the aesthetics and styles of each photographer once the galleries were provided.
We ALL enjoyed spending time with one another and helped others whether it was sharing materials or holding reflectors.
Isn’t this restaurant gorgeous?! I would live here if they let me. Below are photos featuring the work of everyone in attendance!
And after all the flat-lays were photographed and put away, we joined for lunch downstairs. Whether our conversations were about business or personal life, it was nice to know that others were right there with you. The day was a true testament that “A Rising Tide Lifts All Boats!”
